Windows Server 2003 R2 + IIS vs Lunix + Apache
I want to get a server to host my web-site but i really not sure which operating system i should use~i checked online Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition only allows up to 4G RAM and 4 processors (which is one Xeon Quad-core), but that operating system cost like $6000HK...
for a better version which is the Windows Server 2003 Enterpirse can allows up to 32G RAM and 8 processors (the server i wants to get has 2 Xeon Quad-core which i guess means 8 processors?) but it cost $25000HK...
while Lunix is at a much lower cost (hmm...currently i still not sure where to get it, but that's what everyone says :biggrin:) but can support up to 32 processors~but the problem is i am totally not familiar with Lunix~if problem comes up could cost lots of time and money to fix...
so which one should i use and is there any better solution? (too bad i only good a software programming but only know basic stuffs for hardware since i do not have any experience hosting my own web-site)

Is it operating 24/7? What are the features you are going to include in your website? Does the website offer blog, FTP and other services? Does the website offer real time application like online chatting? How critical is the server if it break down? And so on........ 謝謝大大無私的分享囉

大概略懂 謝謝大大無私的分享囉<br><br><br><br><br><div></div> If you are not familiar with Linux , Windows Server 2003 R2 would be a good choice for you . But there is a problem , IIS can't match Windows Server 2003 R2 well , it might cause great damage on operating system usually (by my experience when I was learning it , even my teacher can't solve it ...) , if you have time , go and learn Linux , it is better for you on hardware equip and lower cost . this is not i want!!!
